Molecular machines in protein folding and transport have a long standing tradition in the Munich science community. Research along these avenues is carried out in different model organisms ranging from bacteria to fungi to higher plants to mammals. The concentration of research groups at both the TUM and the LMU has resulted in the establishment of three SFBs within this field (SFB594, SFB TR1, SFB413). Through closer cooperation and networking with other groups working on different aspects of protein chemistry within CIPSM we wish to gain new perspectives and novel approaches which will hopefully lead to better understanding of protein folding and transport.
